USA 20 - Key Lime Pie (and envy shots)

Key West. Land of Key Lime Pie. Mmmmmmmm.

It's famous all over the world, and it was invented here. It's made from a Graham Cracker (yank cracker) base with a really really zesty, smooth yet dense filling...denser than cheesecake even! It leaves a wonderful tart flavour in your mouth. It was invented here to make use of the key limes, apparently they grow all over Florida.

Key Lime Pie comes two ways in Key West, the traditional way with meringue on top, or the way Susan likes it, with whipped cream - I had real whipped cream on one, and canned whipped cream on another - the real one of course is far superior - don't even go the canned stuff.

You can see above, the famous Blond Giraffe Key Lime Pie Factory sign as well as their pie - try it out here in Key West. I have to say, though, that the Key Lime Pie we had at Sunny Days on Islamorada (another key) was better, it had a real tarty lime bite in it that stayed there, I bloody loved it! It didn't look nearly as pretty, but true to form had amazing guts and intense personality.

You can see, too, some of my envy shots. There is a few from Key West and the last one is Fort Lauderdale Beach. What a beautiful beautiful place - aussies would love it, laid back, beaches (though the water was like a billion degrees - no fun at all for me!), and rather quirky to boot.
