If I ever hear anyone say that you can't get good food in England, I just know they're a complete dufus! If the previous Princess Food post didn't convince you, then perhaps this one will.
Borough Market is the most famous, and oldest, food market in London. I try to get here every time I visit, and I had to take The Princess for a look-see! Now, readers, Borough Market is so easy to get to, it's just a 2 minute walk from the London Bridge tube station - so there's no excuse! It's open to the public on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - I recommend you get your butts there on any day but Saturday if you can...SATURDAY IS MANIACAL!!!
I won't bore you with superlatives of greatness, freshness and passionate food people...doing all this blog catch-up has left me almost without words (must buy a thesaurus).
I'll let the pics speak for themselves...they'll say things like wow, cool Creme Caramel Pots, and oh-my goodness rocking Raqulette, and magnificent meringues...that sort of thing!
One special mention, however, goes to Maria's Market Cafe, first pic above, where there was a queue of people lining up for "Baps" (which is really a wacky name for a roll). The Princess and I let it die down a little and went in for the kill. I ordered a good ol' fashioned Egg & Bacon Bap with both tommie sauce and Brown Sauce (aka BBQ sauce to us aussies). The Princess went with something posher (well, she is The Princess), a Lamb and Spinach Bap! We devoured them at the plastic tableclothed tables and watched the world come and go eating their Full English Breakfast, or just the odd Bap or two, or three, or four! And how did it taste??? BLOODY MARVELLOUS!!! Sigh.
One tip though, sportsfans, make sure you DO NOT go to the Borough Market on an empty stomach...you will go crazy, and if you're there on a Saturday the queues for hot food could send you over the edge with all that orgiastic gourmet pleasure going on around you!!!
(Hey HOS, did you see that Comte??? INSAAAAAAANE!!!!)
Sure did... That's totally insaaaane !
