Hmmmmm, this is the final post from Brazil. And it's about one of the most popular foods in Brazil. Pao de Queijo - Cheese Bread. And I'm not such a big fan (but you have to include the good and the bad I think).
These little babies are small, a bit bigger than a golf ball, but smaller than a tennis ball, and they look pretty boring - see pic above. As for taste, well, they taste pretty good, they're sort of like gummy inside with a taste of salty cheese, but pretty mild, not too overpowering. But that's pretty much about it. In my opinion, nothing too special.
The Brazilians eat at them any time of the day - we ate them a few times for snacks with coffee. They are an instition here, and you can buy "add water and mix" type mixtures in the supermarket if you're desperate, but the best ones are made from scratch. My first mum made some when I arrived, and I have to say they were quite spectacular! The ones above were at a cafe - and they were ok.
I remember reading an article about a Brazilian woman in Sydney who desperately missed her pao de queijo, couldn't find a way to make it that worked, so she imported a machine from Brazil to make them the way she remembered!! So somewhere out there in Sydney is pao de queijo, made the Brazilian way!
