Ireland 1 - Girls' Getaway to Sherkin Island

Yes well. Ireland. Um...Land of well...drink.

I've not drunk so much alcohol in one week in my life. Hmmmmm. And it's not all my fault. Honestly. It's all Irish Girl's fault. That's her above, with me, on my second night in Ireland (the first night we got sloshed at her place, I'd arrived in Cork at 8pm and was fried by 10pm!), having my first Guinness. Yes well. I took two mouthfuls of Guinness and that was that. YUK.

Never fear though, the first night of our Girls' Getaway Irish Girl had me tasting Murphy's in the bar at Clonikilty. It's a stout too, like Guinness, but it's the local Cork stout. Yes well. Yuk. I stuck with my yanky Captain Morgan and Coke (here it's sorta exotic!), it served me well over the weekend, and the subsequent week!

So, Girls' Getaway. Yep, Irish Girl (who I met back in March on Easter Island) and I packed our overnight bags and headed off for a long weekend in West Cork. We headed to aforementioned Clonikilty (famous for its black pudding), then on to the beautiful Sherkin Island, where much hijinx was had, alcohol consumed, new friends made and scenery oohed and aaahed over.

There's some of the evidence above.

Baltimore is pic 3. You take the ferry boat over and back to the tiny little Sherkin Island that has one hotel and two bars (one being the infamous Jolly Roger), and a beach! And gosh, it's sooooooo beautiful. Sigh.

Heads up though sportsfans, I have a feeling that there will be more travel blogging going on in Ireland than food blogging - it's an incredibly beautiful country altogether.
