USA 14 - Soda Overload

Hey gang...HOS here again (back by popular demand!!)... I know it's out of order (supergal is up to USA 22 I think), but don't panic, it will be well worth the wait (well, it will be if you're a root beer nut).

There are those who think my love of sweet fizzy drinks is out of control. Well... let me correct your judgement. There is a whole country that makes me look like a complete amateur !

OK, I hear you say, this is impossible! Well, first I refer you back to USA 8 - and the offer of Coke for breakfast (and I did have that Cherry Cherry Limeaid - and loved it !).

Second, check out the Soda selection in the pic - unbelievable ! ("Soda" - yes that's how real fizzy drink folks refer to it...there's no time for "soft drinks", you'll be half way through your soda before you can even say "soft drink" !)

Third, all these soda's are refilled faster than you can say "More Soda!", it's insane, and I love it !! Where has this crazyness been all my life ??!!

Now, incase you think this soda dream, was all play and no work, let me assure you there was a serious side to this sodafest ! The search, for the perfect Root Beer. Yes, Root Beer, one of the greatest of all sodas, and only available on tap in one amazing country in the world.

My search began 1 hour after I landed in LA, with my wonderful Supergal, having a bottle of Maine Root organic Root Beer for me when I arrived at the hotel. Gold ! (Unfortunately, all that healthy organic stuff, just didn't cut it for real flavour - I gave it 3 stars).

I drank a tanker load of root beer on my journey across the USA. At times in the south Root Beer was actually unavailable, and I had to settle for my second love - Dr Pepper....oh well...we all have our trials!

My search continued up to my final Root Beer in LA airport on my stop over on the way home - Bargs - hmmmmm - a dissapointing end with that sweet sweet Coca-cola product - one star !

So, how did the quest turn out, and who is the King of Root Beer? Well here they are:

- Maine Root - Organic - *** - sorry too much healthy stuff!

- Barg's - a Coca Cola product - * - what the heck ?? all sweet but no flavour! I had this serveral times...I'm a sucker for sweetness (and it did go soo well with that banana split!).

- Mug - Caffeine free - *** + * - from the fountain, tastey and an extra star for being the biggest cup of soda in the world !!

- Henry Weinnards - **** - this is quality - found it in Silverton Colorada - flavour packed !

- IBC - ***** - this is the stuff - found it in a few places, in particular Conway Arkansas - went down real easy !!

- Stewarts - *** - nice, but not enough flavour to make my top shelf !

So....IBC wins the HOS award for outstanding achievements in Soda.

And, of course, it's all good ! I highly recommend anything 3 stars or above !

Now, I just have to get back there!!
