I was delighted to discover, last week out on my wanderings, there was to be a Choklad Festival to be held in Stockholm on the weekend. For us English speakers, that means a Chocolate Festival!
What a weekend!!
The venue was the Nordiska Museet (Nordic Museum), and the topic was chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! Luckily, as you all know (if you've been reading), I'm staying with the two biggest foodies in the whole of Sweden...so it was a no-brainer. We were there.
We rocked up just after lunch on Saturday...all pumped and excited, ready to devour copious amounts of disgusting sugary stuff. Bugger. We were there, along with every other Swedish person in the world - the queue was enormous!!! Hmmmmmmmm.
A Plan B was in order. Luckily, I had one.
TM and TMW had shown me a place in Gamla Stan (the beautiful Old Town) that served the most outrageous White Hot Chocolate. We let out a cheer, and took off in search of sugary stuff.
We arrived at Chokladkoppen, which is a cute Hot Chocolate Cafe in Mynttorget, and is a sister cafe to the coffee place next door - you can see the two buildings, above, the orange one is the coffee cafe, and the yellow the one we were headed for! (Apparently, just as an aside, both these cafes have seating out the front in the summer to sit and eat, drink, and watch the world pass by - so put it on your list)
Of course both places were packed, so we ordered ours take-away - and enjoyed our Cinnamon Roll and White Hot Chocolate as we strolled...and dear me, it was GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. It really was like melted white chocolate, and I'm no white chockie fan, but this stuff was INSANE!!!! Sugary stuff mission accomplished.
So, how to get into the Choklad Festival??? We rocked up earlier the next day - we're quick learners - to the beautiful museum (which used to be a Castle) for chocolate. Only in Europe can you go to a chocolate festival in a castle...sigh. And, well, the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. We tasted some great stuff, saw the world's biggest chocolate fountain, and bought heaps of yum chocolate including the most divine Passionfruit Creams, and a heap from one stall that made chocolates like Goats Cheese & Honey (which was FANTASTIC), Thyme and Lemon (AMAZING), and my favourite, Lime and Mint which blew me away. So much to enjoy...you can see a sample of our stash of goodies above. Oh my, it was good.
We basked in the gloriousness of chocolate for a couple of hours, and finally decided to leave when we realised there were too many people to allow us to reach in for the samples! So, out we went to enjoy the beautiful cold sunshine, and do what all self-respecting chocolate gorgers would do after a Choklad Festival... find a local vendor and eat Swedish hotdogs!!!!
BLOODY GREAT WEEKEND.
