OH YEAH BABY!!!!

Ate it today at Santana's - a colourful beach shack type thingy down on Little Exuma (joined to Exuma by a bridge - that's the island I'm on, Exuma), run by a robust local Bahamian woman, D (D seems to feature a lot in local food joints - see previous post). Santana's, by the way, was a fave hangout of Jonny Depp and the Pirates of the Carribean crew who filmed their films between here and Nassau.

You can see by the pic, that the plate really doesn't look anything special. But my oh my - looks can be deceiving! Dear me it was a joy. I could leave all the sides (in fact I had a mouthful only of each), although the yanks did inform me the mac and cheese was something special (hmmmmmmm)- but the lobster...oh my god THE LOBSTER!!! Sweet tender chunks of gorgeous plump white flesh, with a wonderful burnt buttery salty flavour...melted in my mouth.

I watched D prepare them - she took them out of the esky (they were caught yesterday, the guy didn't go out today in his boat, but D didn't know why - I try to get all the lowdown for my readers), cracked them, pulled the meat out with the shell still vaguely attached then cooked them (I have to admit here, after boasting in the previous brackets - I was distracted at this time by the view - see above pic - and didn't see her actually cook them!).

As you can see, it really is one almighty plate of food! We arrived just before rush, because just as we got ours, a couple more families rocked up and that meant they were almost full!! You sit at the counter and eat these wonderfully robust meals - they do conch as well, but readers, I'm saving that for the super duper conch place (god, I hope it doesn't disappoint).
