Brazil 12 - Nha Benta

This is almost unbelievable. It's one of things that you think would never really exist...in fact I wonder who would ever think up something so disgustingly, terribly, awesomely decadent???!!!

It's called Nha Benta. Hard to say, but amazing to eat!

Now the story of Nhe Benta is simple. Apparently years and years ago, Senhora Benta, made this sweet and sold it...they have shortened Senhora to Nha, and hence the name of the sweet is Nha Benta.

So, check it out. That white gooey stuff on the inside is suspiro (see end of last post, means "breath") - like raw marshmallow, all soft and gooey and oh so sweet - sort of like you imagine what a clowd in heaven would taste like. This suspiro sits on a very thin wafer disk (for stability I think) - then of course, due to the fact that's it not yet sweet enough, it's covered in chocolate!!!! I'm laughing as I write this - I mean who would ever come with anything this absurd???

Of course I can't help reminiscing when I talk about Nha Benta - I remember my first one. I bought it from a shop called Kopenhagen (a chain of posh chocolate shops) in a shopping centre called Shopping Meuller - as an 18 year old, eyes so big in the chocolate shop...I saw it. Bought it. Took it out of its bag and as I ate it, I kept looking around, sure someone was going to come and either a)take it off me or b) scream at me for eating something sooooooooooooo decaadent!!! OH MY GOODNESS ME...it makes me sooooooo happy to know that such pure and utter decadence continues to live on in this world!
